2025 Guided Bird Walks

There will be bird walks at two locations this season. These walks are approximately two miles on flat natural surfaces and last about three hours. The birding areas host a variety of bird species, habitats and other wildlife.  Previous walks have spotted a wide variety of species such as woodpeckers, bluebirds, jays, finches, warblers, hawks, owls and waterfowl. There will be many stops to talk and witness birds and wildlife. Parking, restroom facilities and picnic shelters (Dupont only) available. Bring water, snacks, sun protection, binoculars, camera and guidebook, if available. Long sleeves and pants recommended.  Please no children or pets. Registration is required. Space is limited. Please call Castle Rock WBU (303-660-6334) to register.

Location 1:  Dupont Park in Louviers, CO

8020 Main St, Louviers, CO 80131 (Off of Highway 85 north of Sedalia)

Dupont open Space near historic Louviers is where diverse habitats create a rich and rewarding birding experience. Nestled along Plum Creek, this area features a mix of riparian habitat, a tranquil pond, cottonwood woodlands, and open grasslands. Attracting a variety of bird species throughout the year, we expect to see warblers, woodpeckers and song birds as well as raptors.

New to our offerings this year, Slow Birding provides a unique and immersive way to experience nature by embracing stillness and mindful observation. Unlike traditional bird walks that emphasize movement and species identification, this practice encourages participants to settle in one place and patiently observe the behaviors, interactions, and rhythms of our avian neighbors. By slowing down and tuning into the sights and sounds around us, we cultivate a deeper connection with both birds and the natural world. This gentle, reflective approach is perfect for bird enthusiasts of all levels who seek a quieter and enriching outdoor experience.
